Romanian spelling and writing: letters, hyphens, and punctuation
Romanian writing uses a 31-letter alphabet and five letters with diacritics, along with conventions for word boundaries, capitals, and punctuation. The route starts with the alphabet and diacritics, because î and â write one central vowel and position usually decides which letter appears. Hyphen rules come next and return at the end, where a Romanian ending can follow a hyphen. Finish by checking a current normative dictionary before spelling or inflecting a borrowed word.
